Room 100 was used initially for storage of incoming items. Finally it became a little factory. Here are photos showing what's going on in The Factory.

Herre we are looking into one of the chambers onto which the pipes will be fitted. These chambers are very ruggedlly constructed but airflow must be maintained.

Homework . . .

More planning . . .

Measure twice, drill once.

Dan drilling air holes for pipes

The holes have to be burnished to assure a good fit between the pipe and the air chamber. Here Dan is burnishing those holes

Here are a few of the 1400 or so new solenoid-operated valves. These are shown after their wiring has been done. Miriam has to make three soldered connections per valve, a total of 4200 or so for the pipes. This is in addition to the wiring of the console's keyboard.

Two of the old valves. The top one is about 80 years old and has a small leak because of a crack in the leather. The bottom valve has had the leather replaced using imported leather (from Texas).

The various assemblies are carried to the Sanctuary for final assembly, test and installation.

Here we see the underside of the pressurized chambers and the valves which can allow the air to go up to the pipes.

This is a closeup of a typical new valve, showing the solenoidal coil, the armature and the valve proper.

Here we see a box with a large number of valves removed from the old system for refurbishing. These valves were manufactured circa 1920 and the leather had deteriorated.

On a table being refitted with new leather. The valves in the foreground have been repaired; the new leather is cocoa-colored.
